So what is an “Excuse of the Day” calendar exactly? The inspiration was twofold. I have always loved calendars as a way of finding out interesting items and as a way of commemorating some of the things I’ve found important to me.

And some days, we can all use a good excuse - to do whatever it is you want to do (but probably shouldn’t?). Down to your last few dollars until payday (but feeling kinda bummed)? Hey! It’s Bastille Day - so go ahead and buy that cheap six pack. That sort of thing.

Mind you, I am not in the least way recommending or condoning or encouraging drinking or any other ingestion of mood altering substances. But here is the calendar for you to use as you see fit, plus a few other links to help explain some of the method to my madness.

Just a few notes by way of explanation:

The calendar isn’t ever going to be all-inclusive, and I’m always open to suggested additions.

  • Underlined items are links to various items, ranging from pure information to what passes for humorous comments around here, to opinion. And yes, I am a liberal - see here for proof.

  • Fictional characters are included to provide some basis in reality.

  • Questions or comments are always welcome, but not always answered in a timely manner.

  • There could be errors, so don’t develop your life plan based on the information provided. Suggested corrections are also welcome.

  • The calendar includes notes on people, books, music, etc. that I love. Also included are weird and unusual items, or serious events often conveniently forgotten by some. There are even details you might want to know if you’re a writer.

  • If I seem to trivialize tragedy, at times, it is not because I am cold or callous or insensitive.  Sometimes, one must laugh.

I tried to keep it relatively simple so I could still have time to have a life.

I probably forgot a few items in this list. Sorry.
